“The Neighborhood“

This is an ongoing series that looks at my neigborhood and more broadly the city of Buffalo. As the second largest city in New York, Buffalo has a long history and like any place that history has defined how the city has evolved over the years. The series is a way for me to investigate the area and question what it means for me to live in the suburbs in the city and how the evolution of the city got me and my family as well as other residents to the place they are today.

My childhood home was built in 1960 and over the 60 year history of the house my family was the first black residents to live there. And the fact that I spent most of my life living in a house that we would have been denied access to when it was built has a lot of significance.
